Who We Are
ICE Driving is a Newton Abbot-based driving school covering South Devon – from Bovey Tracey and Ashburton to Kingsteignton and Kingskerswell.
After three decades in driver training, including building and running one of the South West’s largest schools, Phil Roberts made a deliberate decision to step back from scale and put his focus back where it matters – on the student in the passenger seat.

Phil has been a driving instructor for over thirty years. In that time he's seen the industry from every angle.
He grew his first driving school to over 50 insutrctors, and reached OrDit status during that period – a qualification that certifies the ability to train other instructors to the highest industry standard. It’s the point at which you stop being a good instructor and become someone who shapes how other people teach.
ICE Driving has been running for twelve years – a driving school focused on the quality of teaching rather than the size of the operation. That experience doesn’t disappear because the school is smaller. If anything, it’s why the school is smaller.
Our Approach to Teaching
One to one every time
No shared lessons or being passed between instructors. Every session is just you and a single instructor, focused entirely on where you are and where you need to get to.
Honest about progress
You’ll always know where you stand. We’lll tell you when you’re ready for your test, and when you’re not. There’s no pressure to book before the time is right.
